So What Is A Digital Classroom?

I sent out an informational letter earlier this year explaining what a Digital Classroom is like, but I thought I'd take an opportunity to post an overview here as well.

I began my Digital Classroom in January of 2012, and it has completely transformed the learning that takes place in my classroom!  In a DC, each student has their own iPad plus the ability to work on classroom shared MacBook Air Laptops.  Much of the work that we would normally do on paper can now be done of the iPads or the MacBooks.  However, the iPads are not just a paper replacement.  Now, we are doing work that could not even be done with paper!  

Students use the iPads to research many different resources when completing projects in Science and Social Studies.  With this technology, they can read articles, search educational websites and watch videos that help them to understand information in their way.

We also collaborate using the iPads.  By using websites like Edmodo.com, the students can send information to each other, comment on each other's thoughts and plan presentations.  Working with others is an important skill that students need to be successful in life, and while this skill is not exclusive to digital learning, it is enhanced by the opportunities that the iPads and collaborative websites give us.

One of the aspects the students enjoy the most about our DC is the opportunity they have to present and show what they've learned.  Students can make iMovies, recordings, digital "posters" and screencasts to present information to the class.  This also gives them to share their learning outside the classroom!  Throughout the year, we will post what the students have created on my blog and on our school YouTube channel.  This lets other students in our school, other teachers and parents benefit from the learning that takes place in our class!

Envié una carta informativa a principio de este año explicando lo que es una Clase Digital, pero pensé que me gustaría tener la oportunidad de publicar un resumen aquí también.

Comencé mi Clase Digital en enero de 2012, ¡y se ha transformado por completo el aprendizaje que tiene lugar en mi salón!  En una CD, cada estudiante tiene su propio iPad además de la posibilidad de trabajar en el los laptops compartidos (MacBook Air).  Gran parte del trabajo que normalmente haría en papel, ahora puede hacerse en los iPads o los MacBooks.  Sin embargo, el iPad no es sólo un reemplazo por papel.  ¡Ahora, estamos haciendo un trabajo que ni siquiera se podía hacer con papel!

Los estudiantes usan los iPads para investigar muchos recursos diferentes al completar proyectos en ciencias y estudios sociales.  Con esta tecnología, se pueden leer artículos, buscar sitios web y ver vídeos educativos que les ayuden a entender la información en su manera.

También colaboramos con los iPads.  Mediante el uso de sitios web como Edmodo.com, los estudiantes pueden enviar información a los demás, dejar comentarios en los pensamientos del otro y planear sus presentaciones.  Trabajar con otros es una habilidad importante que los estudiantes necesitan para tener éxito en la vida, y mientras esta habilidad no es exclusivo de aprendizaje digital, está reforzada por las oportunidades que los iPads y sitios web colaborativos nos dan.

Uno de los aspectos que los estudiantes disfruten al máximo de nuestra CD es la oportunidad que tienen para presentar y demostrar lo que han aprendido.  Los estudiantes pueden hacer películas de iMovie, grabaciones, "posteres" digitales y grabaciones de la pantalla para presentar su información a la clase.  ¡Esto también les da a compartir su aprendizaje fuera del salón!  A lo largo del año, publicaremos lo que los estudiantes han creado en mi blog y en nuestra escuela canal de YouTube.  ¡Esto permite que otros estudiantes de nuestra escuela, otros maestros y padres se benefician del aprendizaje que tiene lugar en nuestra clase!

Este es sólo una pequeña muestra de lo que va a ocurrir en nuestra clase este año.  ¡Por favor venga a nuestra Noche Familiar Académica el 15 de noviembre de 6-7:30 para aprender y experimentar aún más!
